About Cindy

Cynthia (Cindy) Brown, LPCC (she/her), is a clinical consultant and podcourse educator with NeuroAffirm Institute, and a neurodiversity-affirming licensed psychotherapist. She helps clinicians move from understanding neuroaffirming care to practicing it, through 1-on-1 and group case consultation and her CE podcourses. As a neuroqueer clinician and parent of neurodivergent children, Cindy brings both professional expertise and lived experience to everything she does.

As a Clinical Consultant

Cindy consults with therapists who want to provide skilled, compassionate care to neurodivergent clients, especially those with multiply marginalized identities, including neuroqueer, LGBTQIA+, and gender-diverse clients.

Bring Cindy your cases involving:

• Late-diagnosed adults
• High-masking clients
• Twice-exceptional clients
• Transitional age youth and their parents
• Clients you suspect are neurodivergent
• Clients asking, “Am I Autistic? ADHD? Both?”

Together you’ll explore the case through a neurodivergent lens and leave with practical, affirming next steps. Her approach to consultation is warm, humorous, and humanistic. As a lifelong learner, she creates a safe space for any and all questions.

“This is the place! Bring your questions. No judgment.”

In her consultations she holds space for exploring the complexity of your neurodivergent clients’ lives, and the discrimination and trauma they may face daily.

Cindy’s specialties include:

  • Late-diagnosed autism, ADHD, and AuDHD in adults
  • Autistic burnout recovery
  • Complex trauma and internalized ableism
  • Identity exploration (e.g., neuroqueer, intersectionality)
  • Gender-affirming care
  • Socio-political stressors and trauma
  • School-related trauma
  • College and early career transitions

Have a case on your mind? Cindy offers 1-on-1 and group consultations.

As a CE Instructor

With Dr. Tasha Oswald, Cindy co-developed the Neurodivergent Survival Cycle, a framework that helps clinicians understand the complex and cumulative layers of trauma experienced by neurodivergent people. She teaches this framework, along with trauma-informed care for clients with intersecting queer and neurodivergent identities, in her NeuroAffirm Institute CE podcourses. An experienced presenter on autism and neurodiversity, Cindy has served as a speaker and moderator for PESI’s annual autism symposiums and ADHD conferences.
